Maulana Azad College Central Library was founded in 1926, alongside the establishment of Islamia College, by Sri A.K. Fazlul Haq, (the Bengal Government's education minister at that time). The Central Library is one of West Bengal's oldest and largest, catering to the diverse needs of students, faculty, and researchers. It houses around 100,000 books, including many rare volumes, and is recognized as a top college library in the state. With state-of-the-art technology, it offers extensive print and digital resources, including e-books, journals, magazines, theses, videos, language tools, and newspapers, all accessible anytime, anywhere.
The library is fully automated by Koha Integrated Library Management Software (Version : 22.05.04.000). The books are RFID-tagged and Book Drop Box is available for users to submit books even after Library hours. Additionally, users can use the Self Check-in Check-out Kiosk to borrow and return books and peruse the catalog via the OPAC kiosk. Divyangjan Cubicle, NVIDIA Software, and other amenities are available to users with special needs at the library. In addition to the Central Library, a number of departments have their own seminar libraries in an effort to give students access to additional volumes.
The library’s primary financial sources are grants from the Government of West Bengal and the University Grants Commission (UGC). These funds are proportionately distributed to each department of the College for book purchases.
The library now holds over 100,000 volumes of books, purchased with grants from the Government of West Bengal and the UGC.
